The Astoreca hotel was a competition to recover an old house in the area declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the port of Valparaíso.
In the competition we proposed to build a new body at the back of the existing house, which would house new rooms, a spa and vertical circulations, in order to free the old structure from these commitments that would have ruined its original architecture.
The process was long (eight years), in which there was a change of owners, lawsuits with neighbors, earthquake, tough negotiations with the National Monuments Council, a lot of help from the Municipal Works Directorate and infinite patience on the part of the the client’s.
Once the work was finished, fortunately it had great public recognition and the same people who attacked us for years now cite it as an example of restoration and urban renewal in heritage areas.
